Masterson’s Lounge, nestled in the bustling area of Moonee Ponds , markets itself as a trendy “hipster” hangout , but my most recent experience at this establishment became a nightmarish ordeal . While the bar may present a friendly façade, what I found behind its walls was disturbing and far below any standard .

The State of the Venue : Unhygienic and Neglected
From the moment I entered , it was apparent that sanitation was not a priority at Masterson’s . The ground was covered in grime , and a overpowering stench of old alcohol and uncleaned toilets polluted the entire bar . Smelling a mixture of human waste, putrefaction and sour vomit . The counter , which should be the centerpiece of any pub, was piled high with used mugs and debris that looked like it hadn’t been touched in ages . After reading through multiple accounts and chatting with the community, it seems that the standard of sanitation (or lack thereof) at Masterson’s is a well-known flaw . Many customers have reported observing cockroaches darting across the serving surface and proof of vermin in the storage spaces . However, as appalling as the state of the venue was, what truly made my experience at the bar one I wish I could erase —was the behavior of its owners .
